What is Disability?

Are you looking for a career that gives you ‘warm fuzzies’ and enhances your education and training career in community services? Disability work could be the career path for you. Our popular Certificate III in Disability Work covers topics such as:

  • Learning how to support people with disability in a way that empowers them and assists in keeping them as active members of our community.
  • Assisting in developing a plan to enable goal setting for the person with the disability.
  • Knowing how to work effectively in the disability and community service sector.

Some people with disabilities need assistance with everyday daily living tasks, some need assistance with accessing recreation and leisure and others with finding and maintaining employment. You can assist people with a disability in these areas and many more. This great diversity of jobs within the disability sector allows you to utilise your skills in a variety of settings with a variety of people.

Assisting people who have a disability to reach their goals is a rewarding outcome for those working in this sector. You may be supporting people of varying ages and from different backgrounds with a range of needs. This includes but is not limited to providing assistance with those that:

  • have physical needs
  • are intellectually challenged
  • have hearing or sight impairment
  • have mental health issues
  • have a combination of some or all of the above.
