Online courses with a practical on the job component that lead to industry qualifications in; Childcare; Disability Support; Teacher-aide and Allied Health.

  • CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (Child Care)

  • CHC30121 Certificate lll in Early childhood education and care (Child Care)

  • CHC30221 Certificate lll in Education Support (Teacher-aide)

  • CHC33021 Certificate lll in Individual Support (Disability Support Worker)

  • HLT33021 Certificate lll in allied health Assistance

Each course includes three components; theory, practical skill and mandatory workplace hours. The theory component is delivered and assessed online . Practical skills component and mandatory hours in the workplace  allow students the opportunity to gain the skills, practice the skills and demonstrate cin the workplace to industry standards. Competency in a unit is acheived when all three components are deemed satisfactory by the Assessor.

Eligibility Under Career Start, a student may access up to 2 subsidised training places through one of the following options: 

  • a qualification in a certificate III under the general training pathway and an apprenticeship/traineeship, noting that if the apprenticeship/traineeship is done first, the student is no longer eligible to access a general training pathway qualification under Career Start
  • OR
  • two apprenticeships/traineeships at either a certificate II or III level, including school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs).
  • In addition, under Career Start, students may access one subsidised introductory-level skill set.

General Training Pathway

To access a subsidised training place under Career Start, a student must meet the following criteria: 

  • aged 15 years or older and not be a school student 
  • permanently reside in Queensland 
  • be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen 
  • not already have a certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student, and foundation skills qualifications don't count) 
  • not be enrolled in another qualification, even if it's on hold or deferred, whether funded by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training or not (foundation skills qualifications don't count). 

Along with the eligibility criteria above, specific entry requirements or exemptions may apply to certain funded qualifications and skill sets. These are set by industry or sector requirements, as well as national training package guidelines.

Apprenticeship / Traineeship Pathway

To be eligible to receive government subsidised training, the apprentice or trainee must: 

  • have entered into a training contract for a qualification that is funded by the department and be registered on the department's systems 
  • if from overseas, have a visa allowing them to work in Australia
  • not have already completed 2 apprenticeship/traineeship qualifications within the last 10 years. This includes school-based apprenticeships or traineeships.

Financial support for apprentices / trainees

  • When you train in a priority occupation you may be eligible for an incentive to support you to complete your apprenticeship and offset the cost of living.
  • For example: If you’re training towards a qualification listed on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List, you can apply for up to $5000

Financial support for employers

  • The Priority Wage Subsidy is a wage subsidy for employers of Australian Apprentices training towards an occupation listed on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List at a Certificate level III or above. You can use the Priority List Explorer to see which occupations and qualifications qualify for support.
